The Spanish-American war was fought between the United States and Mexico surrounding Cuba and Puerto Rico. United States won the war and gained the Philippines, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, and the US intervenes in Cuba by supporting the Cubans' fight for independence. It’s also important to note that the Spanish-American wars of independence took place from 1808-1825.
