1 gen 1922 anni - Ruhr Invasion

Descrizione:

Background info:
- In 1919, Ebert signed the TOV. The German public was furious, not only had they lost their Kaiser but now they had to deal with extremely strict rules. Ebert himself was reluctant to sign the TOV but had no choice.

The TOV forced Germany to pay £6.6 billion in reparation due to the First World War, the reparation bill was announced in 1921 and was paid. However, in 1992 Germany did not pay its reparations, Ebert tried his best to negotiate with the Allies about the missed reparations, but France had no patience as it had reparations due as well, to the US. So in January 1923, the French and Belgian troops entered the Ruhr (legally under the TOV) and began to take what was owed to them in the form of raw goods and materials.

The results of the Ruhr were disastrous for Germany. The government ordered workers to go on strike, that way, there would be nothing for the French to take. The French reacted harshly, killing over 100 workers and expelling over 100,000 protesters from the region. The French ended up sending in its own workers and produced the goods it needed with the German equipment. The invasion ended in Germany having to print money in order to support the workers on the strike, this then lead to Hyperinflation.
