This Battle was the last attempt by the Byzantines to recover the lost land in Anatolia from the Battle of Manzkert. Manuel Commenous failed to overcome the Seljuk leader of Anatolia, Kilij Arslan II. The losses in manpower were relatively minor. However the Byzantine prestige was greatly damaged, causing Manuel to try to recover Byzantine Empire's position.

This led to Manuel agreeing to Reynald's of Chatillon offering of allyship for a siege of Egypt. However, when the siege began in 1177, arguments broke out on who would rule Egypt if they over took it. This broke the siege with the Greeks returning to Constantinople.
