1 gen 1926 anni - "The Mitford Sisters"
Descrizione:
Among the most controversial and political diverse of families in the early 20th century, the Mitfords represented the chaotic and revolutionary mood in European politics.
They were described by The Times journalist Ben Macintyre as "Diana the Fascist, Jessica the Communist, Unity the Hitler-lover; Nancy the Novelist; Deborah the Duchess and Pamela the unobtrusive poultry connoisseur".
True to their description, the siblings would marry or have affairs with, people of similar ideologies. Diana would have an affair with and then marry Oswald Mosley, leader of the British Union of Fascists. The only brother Thomas, also a fascist, would die in WW2 in Burma after refusing to fight his fellow fascists in Europe. Unity, of questionable emotional and mental stability, was a deep admirer of Hitler and attempted suicide after the outbreak of the second world war, giving herself brain damage in the process. Jessica would be an activist on the far left and ally of various communist parties and the republican cause of the Spanish Civil War.
