On August 10, 1792, the National Gaurd and a mob of Parisians invaded the royal family's residence. But the royal family already fled the palace. The Swiss guards that were stationed opened fire on the crowd, the Swiss soldiers were overpowered. Swiss soldiers were killed by bystanders.
