This day marked Israel's withdrawal from Gaza leaving the Palestinians to their own devices.

At around the same time Hamaas takes ownership and begins to care and nurture the people of Gaza. They provide them with unwavering support as they split from the Palestinian authority in the West Bank (Sultah) which at this point had become very corrupt after the assassination of Yasser Arafat in 2004 by poisoning, instigated by Israeli authorities.

Israel then puts the Gaza strip under a suffocating blockade limiting:

- Employment (unemployment increased by 40%)
- ~30% total water supply (90-95% of that is deemed non-consumption)
- 30% have access to basic sanitation
- limited electricity (400-600 megawatts for a 24 hour period for the ENTIRE city)
- internet and light cuts out at any given moment
- all power plants are in surrounding occupied territories and cities
