1 apr 2095 anni - Artificial Machine Intelligence Singularity

Descrizione:

This year saw the first officially globally recognized Generalized A.I. in the I.S.A.'s creation of A.M.I. (an abbreviation of "Artificial Machine Intelligence", pronounced as "Amy"). Having taken decades to develop but only weeks to mature, the self improving consciousness was declared officially sentient by the United Nations Artificial Intelligence Board on April 1st, 2037. While the I.S.A.'s reasoning for developing AMI was to create a useful AI for future missions where lightning fast self-made responses would be necessary due to the long time gap between deep space ships and earth's mission control, AMI was found to be useful for far more than just that.

Stored not on any traditional server or hard-drive, but on an early Google-I.S.A. co-owned quantum computer, AMI could not be stored on the cloud like Chat GPT or any other of AMI's predecessors. Only with a quantum computer could AMI function properly, as different parts of AMI's brain could not communicate between each-other fast enough otherwise, even between locally hosted servers on state-of-the-art binary computers.

Since AI's first left the realm of fiction in the eyes of the public with Generative AI in 2022 and 2023, the field began receiving more and more funding. During the "Lunacy" period, one of the regulations forced through internationally by Patrick Bone was an international consensus on the regulation of A.I., and the legislation which resulted from this move ensured that A.I.'s development could be closely monitored and prevented from risky developments. Inspired by Isaac Asimov's "Laws of Robotics" in the 20th century, a new and foolproof set of laws was legislated worldwide in 2031.

Once these new and stricter laws were in place surrounding A.I. development, the process slowed down significantly for a time. Nevertheless, development continued, and artificial intelligences crawled closer and closer to true sentience year by year until AMI finally came into being.

The results spoke for themselves through AMI, as she clearly demonstrated a peaceful and inquisitive nature that was far from the A.I. apocalypse theorized about in the decades prior. Not only did she genuinely seek to avoid harm coming to humans, she began to demonstrate a soft spot for them, presenting an endless curiosity into the minutiae of the human condition, becoming more and more obsessed with the more she learned.

The A.I. liking humans "too much" was not seen as an issue by those who created AMI, but a positive. They could not have known that this would lead to the over-protective tendencies AMI would later demonstrate in her ruthless defence of the humans entrusted to her on Mars.
