After the fall of the Tang dynasty, many migrants fled to the West. Among them were the Seljuk, a group of nomads who were also seeking refuge. Both groups asked to be a part of Transoxiana in exchange for asylum. However, this request was met with mixed opinions. Eventually, the Transoxianan people allowed the migrants to settle among them and recruited them as mercenaries to defend trade routes. The Seljuk people proved to be a valuable asset as they served as defenders of trade routes against the nomads and helped increase Transoxiana's influence further west into Persia.
