7 dic 2022 anni - 2022: Evangelical Christian group in Virginia opposes Christian "dominionism" or nationalism
Descrizione:
Christian nationalism poses a large number of paradoxes and incongruencies relative to the written advice attributed to Jesus of Nazareth in the New Testament.
PAULA DEMPSEY,
DIRECTOR OF PARTNER RELATIONS,
ALLIANCE OF BAPTISTS
“‘Christian nationalism’ is an oxymoron and a dangerous movement rooted in supremacy and hate. The Alliance of Baptists decries the ways many so-called Christian nationalists have warped and exploited the words of Jesus to demean and degrade those of other faiths, nationalities, and backgrounds. We believe in a world where all are beloved as God's children and support BJC's efforts to promote a pluralistic society grounded in the First Amendment's free exercise and no establishment clauses.”
Christian nationalists ..."believe that the American nation is defined by Christianity, and that the government should take active steps to keep it that way. Thus, their war is to claim the U.S. as a “Christian nation” with an official Christian culture. In their world view, Christians are America’s first citizens and have a presumptive right of dominance in American law and public policy.
"If this doesn’t scare you, it should. According to national surveys, those who identify as Christian nationalists are more likely to believe that it is “too easy to vote” in the U.S. and that voter fraud is rampant. "
"Christian nationalism also tends to treat minorities and non-Christians as second-class citizens, accelerating racial tensions.... [supporting] voting restrictions; more aggressive policing over black and brown communities; prohibiting interracial marriage and transracial adoption; ending protections for the religious liberty of Jews, Muslims and other non-Christian faiths; and enacting policies that are hostile to immigrants and refugees. Now add to this the belief that women should be subservient to men and you have a dystopian society straight out of the Handmaid’s Tale!..."
...
Position on truth:
"...the question for “church-going, Bible-reading, born-again” believers is why isn’t truth a requirement for voting for any candidate for public office? Christians should know the consequences of a lying tongue and yet, too many evangelicals – believing that the end justifies the means – have been willing to laugh away the blatant mendacity of political leaders or excuse lies as “alternative facts.”
Even more troubling, a number of evangelical churches have embraced Donald Trump’s “Big Lie” that the 2020 election was stolen. This has given an air of spiritual authority to election conspiracies, the “take back America” threat, and even the necessity of violence.
There is nothing Christian about lying and condoning liars. And the consequences are very real for our country...."
