1 gen 1947 anni - EVENT 2: 1947 Assisted Migration Schemes Launched
Descrizione:
In 1947, the Australian government launched the Assisted Migration Schemes, famously known as the "10 Pound Pom." This scheme offered subsidized travel costs of ten pounds for British citizens who wanted to migrate to Australia, attracting a large number of migrants from the United Kingdom. The goal was to address labour shortages and further support the "Populate or Perish" policy.
The "10 Pound Pom" initiative resulted in a massive influx of British migrants. According to historical data, over one million British citizens migrated to Australia under this scheme between 1947 and 1982, making it one of the largest and most successful assisted migration programs in history.
