Alexandria
Descrizione:
Alexandria was founded by Alexander the Great in April 331 BC, after the start of his Persian campaign. It was to be the capital of his new Egyptian dominion and a naval base that would control the Mediterranean.
The city was founded on the site of a small Egyptian town called Rhakotis, which was located on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea. Alexander chose this site because it was strategically located at the mouth of the Nile River, and it had a natural harbor.
The city was named Alexandria after Alexander himself. The Greek architect Dinocrates was responsible for the city's layout. He designed the city to be a major center of trade and commerce, and he incorporated many innovative features into the city's design.
