Dandamis
Descrizione:
Alexander the Great met Dandamis in 326 BC, during his campaign in India. Dandamis was a gymnosophist, a type of Hindu ascetic who lived a life of simplicity and austerity. He was known for his wisdom and his indifference to material possessions.
Alexander was curious about Dandamis, and he sent a messenger to invite him to a meeting. Dandamis refused the invitation, saying that he had no interest in meeting with a mere mortal. Alexander was angered by this, and he sent a second messenger, this time with the threat of death if Dandamis did not comply.
Dandamis again refused the invitation, saying that he was not afraid of death. He told the messenger that he would rather die than be forced to meet with a man who was so deluded by his own power.
Alexander was impressed by Dandamis's courage, and he decided to meet with him in person. The two men met in the woods near Taxila, and they had a long conversation about philosophy and religion. Alexander was reportedly humbled by Dandamis's wisdom, and he left the meeting with a new appreciation for the power of spiritual enlightenment.
The exact date of Alexander's meeting with Dandamis is not known, but it is believed to have taken place in the summer of 326 BC.
