Alexios took the crusaders to across the Bosphorus along with his own army to take the city of Nicaea. Alexios managed to block off the lake to the city to cut of their supplies. Alexios did not want the city to be destroyed by the Crusaders as it was Byzantine Christian city. So Alexios general made a deal with the Turks for in exchange for not killing them the Turks would give up their land to the Byzantines. The Byzantines then shut the gate to the crusaders saying that they lost sacking privaliages.
