Italy's privacy watchdog put a temporary ban on ChatGPT after a data breach and raised concerns over the legal basis for the use of personal data in training the AI model. The Italian Data Protection Authority required ChatGPT to respect privacy laws and limited the processing of Italian users' data. The decision followed a call from over 1,000 AI experts for a halt in the creation of powerful AI tools, and the watchdog also cited a data breach that exposed user conversations and personal details. In addition to these issues, the watchdog expressed concerns about the chatbot providing inaccurate responses and potentially exposing children to inappropriate content due to a lack of age verification.
