Descrizione:
The first Winter Olympics, also known as the 1924 winter Olympics or the Chamonix 1924, took place on January 25th, 1924 in Chamonix in the French Alps. There were about fifteen events that involved a total of five sports. These five sports were skating, Nordic skiing, bobsleigh, curling, and ice hockey. The competitions were held at the foot of Mont Blanc and were organized by the French Olympic Committee. The games were originally known as the “International Winter Sports Week” but because of its popularity and success, in was designated by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as the first ever “Olympic Winter Games”. Now, the Winter Olympics is a lot different. The Winter Olympics now involves fifteen sports, nine more than those that were in the first winter Olympics. It is also held in a different country every year, and lasts sixteen days opposed to the eleven days that the original took place on.
