North Africa was controlled by the Axis powers and the Allies didn’t like this. In the Allied conquest in taking over the Axis power, North Africa was one of their targets. Operation Torch was a multinational assault on Axis-held North Africa. Operation Torch was going to happen earlier but was stopped because of the U.S.' inability to contain the Japanese forces and they didn’t have enough resources to fight in the Pacific and Europe. After the U.S. was controlling and feeling confident in the Pacific they were ready to attack North Africa in Operation Torch. The Allied invasion was attacking Morocco and Algeria. This attack was split up into three task forces, The Western Task Force, The Eastern Task Force, and The Central Task Force. The Eastern and Central Task Forces were positioned to attack more precise locations in Algeria, whereas the Western Task Forces had more spread-out attacks across Morocco.
