As the Allied forces held Tunisia after the success of Operation Torch the Germans wanted it back. In February of 1943, the Americans held the Kassarine Pass. Kassarine Pass is an important path to American supply bases to the west in Algeria. The pass is one mile wide and guarded by 2000 American troops. Germany pushed into Kassarine Pass with 100 tanks and 8,000 soldiers. Germany also had artillery and missiles trying to thin out the defenses as the tanks rolled closer. The defenses of the American troops start to crumble down as German tanks start to break through their defensive lines. Quickly as more German tanks and troops stormed in the American troops knew they were outmanned and started to retreat. To picture in your head what happened American troops were in little foxholes in the ground, German tanks and troops stormed the ground with the support of missiles from artillery and bombs being dropped. In the end, the Allied powers lose Kassarine pass.
