Valley Forge was the place where General Washington and the Continental Army based out of during the harsh winter of 1778. The Continental Army was unprepared for the trials that this winter would give them. Shelter and Clothing was a big hurdle to get over at Valley Forge. The way the Continental Army took care of this was having the men build around 2,000 cabins to protect the army against the harsh winter temperatures and snow. Hunger was a constant problem, with people often going without meat for weeks. At best, the men got fed a half pound of beef per day. Over the months of torturous winter, the most prepared units took the place of their less-fortunate comrades and defended the camp, foraged and patrolled. Frederick von Wilhelm Steuben came all the way from Prussia to help train the underprepared patriots at Valley Forge. This training is what turned the tide of the revolution.
