On June 8 Miners got killed. It all started when I fire broke out in the granite Mountain Mine on Butte Hill. Sending toxic smoke into the tunnels of the mines. When they realized that it was toxic smoke they quickly ran to the other tunnels as fast as they could. But like I said no everyone made it out. In the end, almost 250 miners threaded their way to safety. One hundred and fifty-five men died on the ground, and 13 others succumbed after reaching the surface. The crazy part was that they were working on a fire alarm before the accident. It was 5 inches thick and weighed several tons. But it dropped and it broke so when the accident came then they couldn’t do anything. The Granite Mountain-Speculator Fire occurred just as Buttle once known as the “Gibraltar of Unionism” entered into one of the most bitter episodes of labor strife in a long history of animosity between the miners and the corporations that owned the mines.https://bigskyjournal.com/granite-mountain-speculator-mine-disaster/
