6 giug 1944 anni - D-Day

Descrizione:

On June 6, 1944, more than 160,000 Allied troops (with over 130,000 of those troops being American) stormed onto the beaches of Normandy, France in hopes to overthrow the Germans who were in control. Before the battle Dwight D. Eisenhower said; “we will accept nothing less than full victory.” The men of D-day held close to that quote and stormed the beaches hard. With over 9,000 Allied soldiers being injured or killed. The Americans landed on two beaches codenamed Utah and Omaha. Fighting was very hard on Omaha as more than 3,000 people died or were wounded. While the British, American, and Canadian troops were taking the beaches, the Soviet Union was moving East German territories. In the end, all five beaches were taken. After they were taken the troops started to move more into inland German Territories. This battle was crucial for the Allied forces to end the war against Germany.
