The Sunningdale Agreement was an attempt to create a power-sharing comprise between the Catholics and Northern Ireland. this involved a parliament consisting of representatives from political parties form across the country. A council of Ireland would allow members of the Irish government to meet members of Northern Ireland's devolved government. Parties of both sides supported the plan. However this agreement failed due to Loyalist opposition. The IRA persisted even with the Sunningdale Agreement later bombing pubs in Birmingham, Guildford and Woolwich.
