The Prime Minister of Northern Ireland, Brian Faulkner banned parades and marches. Despite this, an estimated 10,000-15,000 took part in a demonstration in the Bogside area of Londonderry. A minority broke away and threw rocks at the soldiers who responded with live ammunition. This resulted in a total of 14 civilians death and numerious injured.
