Descrizione:
1588 - 1653
Robert Filmer was an English political philosopher who is best known for his defense of the divine right of kings. He argued that monarchs have a God-given right to rule, and that this right is passed down from Adam, the first man. According to Filmer, this means that the power of kings is absolute and cannot be challenged by their subjects. He was an influential figure in the seventeenth century, and his ideas were used to support the rule of Charles I during the English Civil War. However, his views were later challenged by political thinkers such as John Locke, who argued for a more democratic system of government.
