1 marzo 1934 anni - Salinas Lettuce Strike
Descrizione:
In 1934, the Salinas lettuce strike was led by the Filipino Labor Union (FLU) and other ethnic unions in the Salinas area. Despite facing ethnic division and isolation during a strike in 1933, the FLU gained legitimacy with the National Industrial Recovery Act's passage, which mandated that authorized unions be recognized and enabled cooperation with the local Vegetable Packers Association (VPA). With VPA's assistance, the FLU launched the Salinas lettuce strike on August 27, 1934, with a primarily white and Filipino worker coalition. Nearly 7,000 workers took part, with almost half of them being Filipinos, demonstrating strength in unity and laying the groundwork for improving workers' rights.
