Four candidates sparked by differences in the Democrat-Republican party. Federalists were gone, but this party included so many different viewpoints.
Jackson received popular vote, but no one was elected president because none of them secured a majority of the electoral vote. This led to the House of Reps choosing the president, which Henry Clay was the speaker of the house for. He chose Quincy Adams.
After the election, Quincy Adams made Henry Clay his Secretary of State. Jackson and others saw this as corrupt.
