Before this Amendment was passed, the legal age for voting was 21. During the war, the government had a draft in which people from the age of 18-25 were eligible to be drafted into the war. Many people believed that since they were old enough to be drafted they should be able to vote on what happens in our country. Congress decided to bring a new amendment to talk about, lowering the voting age to 18. This amendment was the quickest amendment to be passed.
