President Kennedy, along with his wife and vice president, were in Dallas, Texas to raise support for his campaign. While driving in an motorcade with an open roof to his next speech destination, Kennedy was shot twice and was quickly rushed to Parkland Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead soon after. The shooter was shown to be Lee Harvey Oswald. On the same day, Vice President Lyndon Johnson was sworn into office and took the place of president. This is important to the Vietnam War as LBJ would be the president to officially declare America as part of the war after the Gulf of Tonkin Incident.
