The 26th Amendment changed the legal voting age from 21 to 18. This debate began back in World War 2, when 18 year old's were forced to fight for their country but denied the right to vote. In the drafts for the Vietnam War, again 18 year old men had to register but could not vote. There were marches and protests fighting for young men to have this right, and in July the amendment was passed. This is important as it set the precedent that if you were old enough to be drafted for military service, you were old enough to vote in America.
