1 gen 1960 anni - SHaron Statement issued

Descrizione:

YAF: The largest student political organization in the country in the 1960s, whose conservative members defended free enterprise and supported the war in Vietnam.
Sharon Statement: Manifesto drafted in 1960 by founding members of the Young Americans for Freedom (YAF), which outlined the group’s principles — free enterprise, limited government, and traditional morality — and inspired young conservatives who would play important roles in the Reagan administration in the 1980s.

The New Left was not the only political force on college campuses. Conservative students were perhaps less noisy but just as numerous. Inspired by the group Young Americans for Freedom (YAF), right-leaning students asserted their faith in “God-given free will” and charged that the federal government “accumulates power which tends to diminish order and liberty.” The YAF, the largest student political organization in the country in the 1960s, defended free enterprise and supported the war in Vietnam. Its founding principles, a mixture of conservative ideals such as limited government and traditional morality, were outlined in the “ Sharon Statement,” drafted (in Sharon, Connecticut) in 1960, two years before the Port Huron Statement. Many of the students who rallied to the YAF’s call would go on to play important roles in the “Reagan revolution” of the 1980s.
