After world war one the German national pride was damaged. They couldn't believe they lost and redemption was wanted. After Hitlers rise to power he instituted many aggressive reforms to revamp the German government. The militarization of the Rhineland was one of them. The act increased already strained tensions between the Germans and Allies. Ultimately leading to the war and many German losses. By militarizing the Rhine land Hitler didn't gain any diplomatic ground, he only made more enemies.
