This case, brought to the Supreme Court by Norma McCorvey or "Jane Roe", convinced the Court to rule that the Constitution generally protected a pregnant woman's choice to have an abortion. This was a large stepping stone on the way to women's rights in the US. Fifty years later, Roe v. Wade was overturned in some states and is threatened in others.
