Signed into law by JFK's successor, Lyndon B. Johnson, this act went against discrimination based on race, color, gender, religion, or natural origin in public facilities (restaurants, theaters, bathrooms, hotels). Discrimination in hiring practices was also barred, though the act did not cover everything concerning a black person's right to vote.
