18 ottob 1519 anni - The massacre at Cholula
Descrizione:
When the Aztecs invited the Spanish to Tenochtitlan, they strongly encouraged them to go through the city Cholula. This was probably just because it was a holy city, but Cortés was worried that it was a trap, so he decided he'd go through it, but take the Tlaxcalan offer if 1000 warriors to go with them.
When the Spanish entered Cholula, it was very lightly guarded as it was a holy city and they put their trust in the gods to protect them. The combined Spanish and Tlaxcalan forces massacred 3000 people. This showed Montezuma that the Spanish shouldn't be taken lightly, and sent fear around the whole empire.
