After no immediate surrender, the US decided to try again. This time, the B-29 bomber Bockscar dropped the bomb known as the Fat Man onto the city of Nagasaki, on August 9, 1945. However, Nagasaki wasn’t the second choice, it was Kokura, but since that city had a dense morning fog that day, the bomber plane rerouted to their third choice, Nagasaki. Yet again, a city was completely destroyed and thousands more lost their lives. Days later, but thankfully without the need of another bomb, Japan announced their surrender.
