In the same spring MLK was assassinated, JFK's brother Robert was also assassinated. This also intensified protests and other riots around the country. Robert Kennedy had declared that he would run for President but many lost hope in the candidates when he was assassinated. The young people especially did not see the point in getting involved in the next presidential race.
