21 nov 1970 anni - Operation Ivory Coast: The Raid to Free American POWs - Keira
Descrizione:
Operation Ivory Coast was a joint mission to rescue American prisoners of war from Son Tay Prison camp, located approximately 23 miles west of Hanoi, North Vietnam. The plan aimed to free around 70 American POWs who were being guarded by 45 North Vietnamese soldiers in inhumane conditions. The mission was meticulously planned for months, including a feasibility study and intensive training. The Joint Chiefs of Staff approved the preliminary mission, which was then overseen by General Blackburn. After a two-and-half hour infiltration flight, the team found that no POWs were present at the camp, and it was later discovered that the prisoners had been moved from the camp in July. Despite the failure of Operation Ivory Coast, the raid did boost the morale of POWs in North Vietnam when prisoners learned later of the attempt to rescue them.
