Because of the Cold War heating up in the 1950s, the U.S. discussed many foreign policies so they could contain communism and keep it from spreading any further. The U.S. approached Guatemala and elected a new former president because Jacobo Arbenz, was using communism to help Guatemala grow and prosper.
