1 gen 1992 anni - GFP
Descrizione:
GFP, Green Fluorescent Protein, was initially discovered in jellyfish. This is significant for the use of confocal microscopes that require fluorescence to look at focal planes in tissue. There are many types fo fluorescent molecules within tissue that when excited by different wavelengths emit other wavelengths that make it possible to view activity by appearing as a dye. An example of the use of GFP was when the protein was harnessed and inserted in the GnRH gene. This essentially turned on the GFP protein in neurons of transgenic mouses. Then when sections of the mouse brain was examined under specific wavelengths the electrical activity of the tissue is able to be observed. This protein also appears as a dye, distinguishing the movement as the protein works as small molecular weight dyes.
