Patient of Paul Broca

-Spent 21 years as a patient in Paris
-----About 10 years in, he lost complete control of the right side of his body
-----Over the following 11 years, his condition deteriorated

-Had lost the ability to speak anything but the sound "tan"

-Was intelligent (could think, comprehend, etc.)

-Was correct when he attributed the origin of his loss of language to paralysis of his tongue

-Died within 6 days of meeting with Broca, his brain went to him to be autopsied

-Broca discovered significant damage to an area in the left frontal lobe and named the disorder "motor aphasia"

-Started a whole forward motion in the study of different types of aphasia
