What would turn out to be Opal & Nev’s only concert tour launched on March 3, 1973, at Philadelphia’s Electric Factory. The ragtag personnel, split between two Volkswagen Transporters, included opening act Estella“Star” Acadia, a waiflike singer/songwriter with a husky voice and a distinctive shroud of long dark hair; a touring band; Virgil LaFleur, who handled Opal & Nev’s wardrobe and documented a handful of the shows using his 35mm; tour manager Stanley Coombs, who was hired by Rivington and drove one of the vans; and, taking turns driving the second, Percy Purdie and his younger brother Artis, Black Panthers who assisted Coombs (in lugging equipment) and venue managers (in securing the shows and Opal’s dressing rooms).
