The Gold Standard Act was passed, which defined a dollar as the equivalent to 1/20.67 of an ounce of gold. Though a variety of types of currency was still being used by Americans, they could now be exchanged for gold at the Treasury. This impacted the economy by making gold much more valuable and a much grater part of the economy.
