31 dic 1964 anni - Selma Campaign March 1965 [POLITICAL]
Descrizione:
50% AA population in Selma, but only 1% of the registered electorate.
MLK kept up the pressure for voting rights for AAs and led a march in an area with a hostile police chief, Jim Clark. Violent behaviour of the police and size of the march (25,000) against a context of the USA needing to give an image of the champion of democracy in a Cold War climate, led Johnson to propose a Voting Rights Bill which became law in August 1965.
Evidence of own actions (pressuring the federal government to pass legislation)
