The 14th Amendment-Equal Treatment Under the Law states that all persons born or naturalized in the U.S., and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the U.S. and the state where they reside. It was called the Reconstruction Amendment. The amendment prohibited the states from depriving any person of “life, liberty, or property, without due process of law.” States couldn’t deny anyone equal protection under the law.
