The Continental System, used in the Napoleonic war refers to the blockade designed by Napoleon to paralyze Great Britain through the destruction of British commerce. The decrees of Berlin proclaimed a blockade: neutrals and French allies were not to trade with the British.
This helped Napoleon greatly but caused his final defeat since he was focused on England he was beaten by the Coalition armies of Austria, Prussia, Sweden, and Russia.
