Descrizione:
Former president Donald Trump was the first president “to attempt to overturn legitimate election results, who attacked the press and the civil servants who worked for him, who admired dictators, who blatantly profited from his public office and who repeatedly lied to the public for his own selfish purposes” (Wheeler). The reason that democracies don’t exist nowadays is because of leaders like Trump. Leaders like Trump, Hugo Chavez, and Stalin all took advantage of their power and handpicked the people and government officials to surround them. All three of those people completely changed their governments outlook and purpose for the betterment of themselves and their beliefs. In not all, but most people's eyes they all left the government in a worse place when their time as leader was over. Trump promised throughout his campaigning that he would be the bridge between the people and Washington, D.C. He did none of the sort though when he was in office. He made deals with lobbyists and billionaires on the regular and constantly made decisions that benefited his own happiness and well being over the nation's well being. He even employed and recruited all of his favorite unqualified men to serve under him. While his party and affiliation is the farthest thing from democratic, he still was in charge of representing a so-called American democracy. However putting people like him in charge especially after losing the popular vote shows how weak the integrity of our “nations democracy” is. The manner in which Trump conducted himself and the actions he carried out as president shows that during his time as president. America was a modern day oligarchy, rather than a democracy.
