House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) investigators would relentlessly pursue actors, directors, and writers who in the past had attended Communist meetings. The HUAC would call in all sorts of group, so that they could testify their political views. One group that was called in was the Hollywood Ten. They refused to answer any questions and were consequently sentenced to jail. A blacklist would be created with the names of actors that should not he hired. This would ruin many of their careers, and caused Hollywood movies to be much more tamed.
