While many people claim that The Beach Boys were the pinnacle of surf music, the Ventures were actually the most definitive surf music group regardless of the fact they did mostly instrumentals. They even wrote the opening theme for Hawaii Five-O.
Their song "Walk, Don't Run" which was released in 1960 was the first surf rock song.
