War dems (McClellan, although he said if he was elected he would have Congress work on an armistice and peace convention)- wanted to fight until the rebellion was over
Peace dems- wanted fighting to stop and a constitutional convention to negotiate peace.

McClellan-war dem, ran on idea of negotiation, which made Alexander Stephens (confederate VP) happy because he thought that McClellan would accept an independent Confederacy.


with victories at Atlanta, McClellan repudiates the Democratic peace platform and Dems docus on the alleged dangers of emancipation then Dems targeted Lincoln and talked about miscegenation (A derogatory word for interracial sexual relationships coined by Democrats in the 1864 election, as they claimed that emancipation would allow African American men to gain sexual access to white women and produce mixed-race children.)
