He is known for his role as originator of the Quantum Theory. He called packets of energy quanta. He was able to prove that the energy of each quantum is equal to the frequency of the radiation multiplied by a universal constant, now known as Planck's constant.
He observed the wavelength distribution of the energy emitted by a black body as a function of temperature.
