At 18 I shared an apartment with five other people in Culver City and had very little life experience. Rent was due and I was auditioning a lot. I had no alternative -no backup, no savings, no parents to call who could bail me out, no friend to loan me money. There was more and more pressure to land something. It was the end of the month and I went for something cheesy and terrible. I fought for It because I needed to feed myself. I didn't even get that audition. I was devastated and very worried about where the next paycheck was going to come from It struck me how unreliable my chosen profession was. How scary and personal the losses felt, and how intimate the rejection felt. At that moment, I realized I had no other option than to make this work. My alternative was to return home and give up. I sat on my couch and I looked out the window and I realized I had nothing else. This was the do or die moment. I ate Ramen noodles for a long time and then I landed something and have worked ever since. My inspiration is that sometimes there's no alternative, there's no other plan. In this industry, I think we're always chasing the high- the warm glow of an escape, a relief of creatively disappearing. It's electrifying.
